Differences Between Wine Decanters

Do you want to add class and depth to your bar setup? If so, you may want to consider adding a wine decanter. Decanters are perfect for gaining a better taste from your wines, but they also bring about a very attractive look and feel to a bar and are very helpful when serving wine to your visitors.
Decanting at one time in history was the process of pouring liquid from one vessel into a carafe or decanter in order to separate sediment that would gather in the bottom of wine bottles. But in recent years sediment is not an issue anymore. Now, decanting is more about getting a better flavor from a bottle of wine. This process is called oxygenation. An optimal decanting process involves trickling the wine down the walls of a decanter, which imparts fuller flavor while removing the unpleasant edge of the wine.
Wine decanters come in many sizes and shapes. But from the definition just stated in the previous paragraph not all wine decanters are the same. There are slim wine decanters and their are wide vessel decanters. Not to mention the strange decanters that branch out like weeds. But which one is better. Slim decanters will not do your wine justice. They just don't allow wine to go through the process of oxygenation. Wide vessel decanters are perfect in the fact that they provide a wide area for wine to gain oxygen.
The majority of wine decanters are very upright and tall in shape. The main material used to make these decanters is glass so that the process of decanting may be seen. Lead crystal is One of the most popular materials to make wine decanters. But their are alternatives to lead crystal decanters. Non lead decanters are taking a hold in the market. Although lead decanters have not been outlawed it should be known that if you leave wine in a decanter for an extended amount of time the lead will tend to seep into the liquid contained within the vessel. So, it is recommended to decant your wine for a day or two and if it is not finished re-bottle the wine in its original container.
